So as I entered 2018, I decided to revamp by skin care regime and what better than investing in the highly revered La Roche-Posay Effaclar 3-Step System. I’ve always suffered with problematic skin, which is prone to spots, blackheads and extremely oily to say the least. I’d heard many good reviews about La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo [+] from friends who also had problematic skin, so I went all out and decided to buy the 3-Step System and see if I had finally purchased a product that worked for me.

The La Roche-Posay Effaclar 3-Step System consists of:

• Effaclar Purifying Gel Cleanser 125ml
• Effaclar Astringent Lotion 200ml
• Effaclar Duo [+] 40ml

The set is said to last for 6 weeks, however I found that the cleanser lasted much longer as you only need to use a small amount of it. The first thing I noticed about this system was it’s unusual smell which reminded me a little bit of washing up liquid! That aside, I was excited to try it out and see what results I got.

What does La Roche Posay promise with this product?

My verdict

After using this product for 2 weeks I noticed no difference to my skins appearance, however the amount of spots I usually get had reduced. I continued to use the product twice a day, morning and night and after 4 weeks my skin looked more even in tone, and the redness around my nose has reduced. Again the amount of spots I usually get had reduced. Excited to see the end result I continued until week 6, and was met with horrifically dry skin. The skin around the edges of my nose and tip of nose were dry, flaky and quite sore. I guess my skin wasn’t used to such a strict regime, and even though I have very oily skin, it left my skin dryer than it’s ever been in my life. I had to stop using it for a while due to this, but when my skin was back to normal I reduced the amount I used it to once a day, and applied a good moisturiser at night which seemed to combat the issue.

Overall, this product did reduce the amount of spots I get, and make my skin tone more even. But the product also claims to reduce the number of blackheads, and unfortunately mine were exactly the same as before I started using the system. I will still continue to use this system as I’m happy with how it reduced the amount of spots I got, but will be cautious over it causing my skin to become too dry.
